Back in the lab after the trip to the waterfall:
Before dinner we met with Dr. Pinto in order to place the ants and their fungus farms within larger containers so that the ants can have space to clean out the space. The students will be able to start working with the ants tomorrow. Every bin had to be cleaned, as well as the table space around the bin. They lined the edge of the bin with some mineral, placed some cotton dipped in clean water in the bins, and placed their air colonies in the bins.

After dinner the groups gathered again to work on a question that Dr. Pinto asked: Where are microbes most abundant on this farm?
The groups had to work together to create a hypothesis response to this question. Once they had their hypothesis and had worked with Dr. Pinto on it, they came up with locations they wanted to test and swab in order to place it in a petri dish and test their hypothesis. After they finished collecting their samples (they could sample up to 10 locations), we reconvened to watch a couple videos about ants and have a discussion with Dr. Pinto.
